Region to witness increased tourist arrivals

The hotel occupancy in Kuwait grew by three points, touching 61 percent, in comparison to that recorded during same period last year, according to report by Al-Tameer Company for Real Estate Investment.

The report also pointed out that the price of single room grew to 4.3 percent, during the first quarter of this year.

As for the MENA region, the report pointed out that there was mixed results across all three metrics of hotel industry. Hotel occupancy in the region fell 12.9 percent, touching 57.8 percent during March 2011, while the average daily rate grew by 9 percent touching $172.89, while Revenue per Available hotel room dipped 5.1 percent touching KD99.98 in comparison to March 2010 figures.

As for the tourism numbers this year, the region expects an approximate 36million tourists to visit the MENA region, and predicts visitor numbers to touch 69million by 2020, due to hosting of FIFA World Cup at Doha, Qatar.
