Ministry may permit expats to transfer residence to other companies

The Ministry of Labour may issue a decision that permits expatriates to transfer residence to other companies.

According to sources, such a step will be of help to those who have become illegal due to closure of companies. They can therefore use the opportunity to amend their status in the country, to end their suffering.

The Ministry will forward this decision to labour departments in all six governorates, so that violators will be given a two-month grace period to modify their stay.

The Ministry has also issued a decision that permits domestics, holding Article 20, to transfer their residence visa to Article 18, and work in companies in private sector. But, they should transfer their residencies to the same sponsor or to any of their first degree relative.

According to sources, the decision will take effect on 29th May 2011, and will last until 31st August 2011. The move will re-organize the labour market for non-governmental sector and will help resolve the problem of shortage of labourers within the employment market.

According to the decision, the labourer must possess valid residence prior to 1st May 2011, and they should be ready to transfer it to same sponsor or any of his first degree relative, the sources emphasized.
