Residence law violators given opportunity to legalize status during amnesty

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in Kuwait has issued work permits to residence law violators so as to legalize their status during the amnesty period.

According to Undersecretary, Mohammed Al-Kandari, such candidates are free to request the Ministry to issue new work permits for them, provided, the companies are willing to employ them.

The Ministry allows such workers to even keep up their old jobs, provided, they have rectified their position, Al-Kandari said.

It is up to the Interior Ministry to decide on banning any worker from entering Kuwait, depending on the case involved. Usually, workers who leave the country during the amnesty period, or correct their status are not barred from re-entering the country. But, illegal residents who are arrested during the security campaigns will be dealt with based on the current regulations, he pointed out.

The residence law violators are free to either leave the country without paying fines, or legalize their status by paying fines during the amnesty period. The period ends on 30th June 2011.
