Kuwait to implement Smart Passports in 2012

Work on Smart Passports will conclude by end of this year, and they will be effective since 2012, said the Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs, Maj. Gen. Faisal Al-Nawaf.

According to Al-Nawaf, the Citizenship and Passports Department at the Interior Ministry, has been earnestly working to introduce Smart Passports in Kuwait. These passports will carry chips with detailed information and fingerprints of the holder. This information will be cross-verified by the security apparatuses during the arrival and departure of the passport holders. The chip will also carry security information that indicates in case the holder is wanted by the law, or has a court sentence or arrest warrant against him.

There are also suggestions about including eye prints, but the implementation of the project is most important, it has been reported.
