First Ring Road in Kuwait only 56% complete

Only about 56percent of the work on the KD29mn First Ring Road project has been completed, ever-since the signing of the contract five years ago, revealed a senior official at the Ministry of Public Works (MPW).

Visiting the areas of work where the major construction is taking place, the project supervisor, Mohammad Abadine, said that the date of completion was originally scheduled for mid-2011. But, several problems, including limited experience of Arab labourers has delayed the project.

According to Abadine, the total cost of the work completed till date has touched KD16mn. He further revealed that two more pedestrian bridges, the fourth and fifth are to be built as part of the project and will be opened for use soon, both near Sheraton Roundabout.

The official revealed that upgrading rainwater drainage network in the vicinity of First Ring Road has also been incorporated as part of the project. He emphasized that the project team has avoided open excavation work wherever possible to prevent any obstruction in traffic.
