Labour Ministry concerned over growing expat population
The Labour Ministry is facing several persistent problems, particularly with increase in expat numbers, complaints from disabled citizens, difficulties pertaining to Co-operative societies and sports-related issues, all of which needs to be addressed promptly, said Minister Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi, when speaking during a gathering.
The Minister emphasized that the most vital issue to be addressed to at the moment, is the high levels of expatriate manpower, which, has turned citizens into a minority in their own country.
According to the Minister, the problem with expatriate workers is that, majority of them fail to comply with the residency laws in the country. Al-Afasi said that the computerized registration system was introduced to combat issues in this area, particularly, in view of the forthcoming visit by UN Human Rights Council representatives in May.
