New labour law mandates adherence to national manpower percentage

The new labour law in Kuwait mandates companies with more than 24 employees to abide by the national manpower percentage rule else, they will be fined KD100 for every additional worker.

The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour in Kuwait said that the amount would be deducted directly from the bank accounts of the concerned companies.

The Ministry will shortly form a committee to inspect implementation of the decision. The activities of the committee will begin at the earliest, particularly, as the execution of the automation project has begun.

In the meanwhile, the Assistant Undersecretary for Planning and Administrative Development and Supervisor General for the Automation Project, Awatif Al-Qattan, confirmed that the Ministry has already suspended the files of companies that are not inline with the national manpower percentage.

The computer has been programmed to automatically reject data of such companies. The suspension will be temporary, and will be effective only till the companies follow the directive and update their fees.

The International Labour Organization representative in Kuwait, Thabet Al-Haroun emphasized the need to implement the law in Kuwait, as it could improve the social and economic conditions in the country.

Appreciating the new labour law, Al-Haroun said that it has the power to transform the country into a financial and economic hub in the region, and is also in-line with the vision of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al Sabah.

He urged for implementation of the law at its earliest, as it is impossible to execute it without giving proper training to the employees at the concerned Ministry.
