Minimum wage system for expat workers in Kuwait likely
Kuwait aims to establish minimum wages for expatriate workers in the private sector to provide decent living conditions, announced the Labour Ministry in Kuwait yesterday.
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour will approve mechanisms to implement minimum wages for various worker categories in the private sector, said Mohammed Al-Afasi, when speaking to the press.
The Ministry has already implemented several regulations which abolishes the sponsorship system, and is in the process of setting up an independent labour authority, he said.
The Ministry is keen to ensure freedom of expression to enable expatriate workers in conveying their demands to the relevant authorities through proper channels which ensure continuity of work and eliminate any harm, Afasi said.
He added that the Ministry has received new facility which would offer proper shelter to workers who have been exposed to physical abuse, violence, or lack of rights and dignity.
He also said that the Ministry will ensure that female workers are not subjected to any form of restrictions in performing their duties.
