Kuwait plans construction of 10 residential cities
The Housing Committee at the National Assembly has approved a draft bill for construction of ten residential cities, revealed Committee Rapporteur MP Naji Al-Abdulhadi.
Al-Abdulhadi, who spoke to the media, revealed that the panel approved the bill in the presence of representatives from the Public Authority for Housing Welfare (PAHW).
However, the committee has also approved a draft bill on the ‘inherited quota’, wherein it has increased the value of inherited properties over which the government loans are not granted, from KD200,000 to KD300,000.
The proposed amendment has been approved by the panel to the Savings and Credit Bank law to permit citizens, who have obtained the KD70,000 in housing loan to seek a second loan when the first house is sold.
Meanwhile, the Public Amenities Committee insisted on the proposed re-selling of plots in Block 3 and Block 4 in Kheitan, as the government had earlier recommended that these plots be sold through public auction to citizens.
One of the Committee members, MP Saadoun Hammad, revealed that he has placed a proposal to limit the public auction to citizens who have forwarded housing grant applications, and they should be given preference to benefit from these plots, so that they could find an immediate solution to their housing woes, as they have been waiting for approval of their applications for so long.
Hammad also confirmed that the committee has discussed about re-distribution of old houses in Block 10, Kheitan and added to it the re-distribution of old houses in Ahmadi, as both areas have been facing the same issue for quite sometime.
He also added that the committee has also discussed several such proposals, but the voting has been postponed for a week. The committee will meet again next week and will approve the draft bills to refer them to the Parliament.
