Expats to be granted five year residence
Expatriates will be granted Residency for a maximum period of five years, based on the request by the sponsor, an official at the General Immigration Department of the Interior Ministry in Kuwait revealed.
This will be applicable to family visa holders, seeking job in the private sector. But this depends on the period of service specified in the work permit issued by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
The official pointed out to Article 12 of the Expatriate Residence Law, which stipulates that the residency in the case of family visa holders can be granted for five years, provided, their passports are also valid for five years.
As for those working in private sectors, the five year residence can be granted inline with the period stipulated in the work permit issued by the Ministry. This in-turn is dependent on the request of any concerned company sponsoring the expatriate.
The official revealed that few amendments have been made to regulations that permit citizens of 34 nations to obtain visa on arrival. The changes have been incorporated to avoid any negative implications on the society.
Women who enter the country on tourist or family visa need to present clear evidence of relationship with their sponsor. In case of a businesswoman, she will also have to prove that she has sufficient funds to last the duration of her stay or undertaking by a Kuwaiti sponsor (individual or company).
