Visa transfers to be granted only to University degree holders
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour announced that effective April 2010, the transfer of commercial visit visas to residence permits will be granted only for university degree holders.
According to Mohammad Al-Kandari, Undersecretary at the Labour Ministry, the Ministry will stop processing applications seeking transfer of commercial visit visas to residence permits, effective April.
Usually, the Ministry takes into consideration the manpower requirements of companies in approving such applications, as the labour law in the private sector includes a clause in this regard. However, beginning April this year, such a rule would be removed and the Ministry will permit only university degree holders for such transfers, he clarified.
Further, the Assistant Undersecretary for Labour Affairs, Mansour Al Mansour, re-iterated that the Ministry is still processing applications based on the manpower requirements of the companies, but, this will no-longer be the case, beginning April.
The Ministry has already informed its interior counterparts to ensure smooth processing of such transfers, when the decision takes effect in April, the Al Mansour clarified.
