Kuwait constitutes 70 percent expatriate population
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has agreed that foreign labour constitutes 70 percent of Kuwait population and that the Ministry ensures that their rights though minor aberrations, do exist, which could be rectified.
The Ministry intends to co-operate with other ministries to address the issue of the large number of foreign labour in Kuwait, said Mohammed Al-Kanderi, the Undersecretary at the Ministry.
The new labour law obliges the country to form a supreme authority for house-employed labour, through which solution to several problems could be reached.
Kuwait has signed seven out of eight international agreements on labour rights so far, and it is almost signing the last one. The official mentioned that the Ministry hosted an International Labour Organization (ILO) workshop to respond to queries pertaining to foreign labour in the country, which provided an opportunity to form a clear perspective on these comments, he concluded.
