Kuwait launches pink women only taxis
For the first time in Kuwait, pink women only taxis will hit Kuwait roads during the coming weeks. The taxis will be driven by women and will accept only female customers.
According to a Kuwaiti entrepreneur, Bedoor Al-Mutairi, the ambitious new project is sure to meet success, as this would ensure a more secure mode of transportation to women.
Al-Mutairi said that she aims to spare women the hassle that they may face when a male driver takes them to their destination. The business, called ‘Eve Taxis’ follows the footsteps of other successful ‘women-only’ firms in the UAE, Syria, Lebanon, Bangladesh and Iran.
Several other European countries, such as Spain, Britain and Mexico, have already introduced this new style of transportation this year, despite being known as liberal countries, she pointed out.
The Kuwait Small Projects Development Company, a governmental body of Kuwait Investment Authority (KIA), helped Al-Mutairi to start-up her business, she said when speaking to the media.
The taxi service will operate from 8am to 8pm, and will be fitted with a GPS system and will be driven by female drivers with good local knowledge. The prices will be inline with that set by the Interior Ministry and the Eve Taxi phone numbers will be announced soon.
