Kuwaiti Government urged to find lasting solution to housing issues
Leading political activist, Khalid Al-Abdulali, speaking during a press statement, urged the government should find a lasting solution to housing issues, as all efforts of previous governments have failed. He suggested that the government should find a new mechanism for land allocation, using it for construction of public housing units and distribute it to deserving applicants.
Al-Abdulali hoped to do away with 15-year waiting period. He emphasized that the government was unable to find a comprehensive solution in this regard. Therefore, the government should permit the private sector to implement it, as such a system has been successful in several countries.
He said that by offering the private sector an opportunity to implement such projects, there will be a lasting solution after the long wait.
“The world is dynamic, and therefore we must fast-track developmental programs to catch up with neighbouring nations in that aspect,” he urged.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Premier for Economic Affairs, State Minister for Housing Affairs and State Minister for Development Affairs Sheikh Ahmad Fahd Al-Sabah, pointed out to several other major pending issues such as housing care for Kuwaiti women, raising the valuation ceiling to KD300,000, and documentation of the Amiri grant from which few families are yet to benefit, and several others who are yet to register. He said that he has been collating problems faced by the citizens on daily basis with statistical data to find a suitable device method of dealing with them altogether.
It is important to respond adequately to these issues, so that everybody can witness the outcome, said Sheikh Ahmed re-iterated.
