Expats constitute 69 percent of working population
Expatriates have always made their dominating presence felt in almost all job categories, as the gap between locals and expatriates in the GCC workforce is huge, reported TalentRepublic.net, a regional recruitment company.
The report revealed that nearly 58 percent of GCC’s workforce constitutes expatriates. Al Madar Research study has shown that 87 percent of the working population in the UAE are expatriates. The trend continues in almost all GCC countries, particularly Qatar, which has the same ratio of local-expatriate working population, as that of UAE.
Kuwait also has a large expat workforce population, accounting to 69 percent of all workers in the country, while in Bahrain expatriates constitute 51 percent of the working population.
Oman and Saudi Arabia are the only GCC countries with considerably higher local workforce, compared to expatriate workers at 70 percent and 73 percent respectively.
The report highlighted the major role played by the private sector in GCC countries in complementing the effort by the government in strengthening the participation of nationals in the job market.

The report took into account, the efforts by regional governments to boost the quality of local workforce as an important step in this process.
Establishing world-class educational amenities, introduction of several leadership and career development programs apart from academic programs to various career and leadership development initiatives organized by the government, have considerably helped in improving the quality of graduates in the region, and in improving the competency levels of the local workforce the report said.
