Draft Labour Law amendment includes more privileges to working women
The Kuwait Parliamentary Labour and Health Affairs Committee approved several proposed amendments to the private sector Labour Law.
Following the meeting, MP Dr Salwa Al-Jassar, who spoke to reporters, revealed that the amendments made include granting of a two-hour break to working mothers to nurse their children, and defining jobs considered as dangerous for women by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.
Speaking about other amendments, such as establishing a nursery at the workplace for children aged four years if there are more than 200 female workers in the organization.
The Committee also agreed to proposals that do not allow suspension of an employee based on their religion, ethnicity, and gender, and workers should not be made to work more than eight hours a day. The Committee also agreed that labourers will not be asked to work for more than 48 hours a week or eight hours daily.
The new labour bill also seek granting more benefits to workers, including more public holidays, annual leaves and other rights, particularly end of service indemnity.
The Committee will meet again on Thursday to further discuss the issue.
