Police clearance certificates mandatory for residence permit
The General Department of Immigration has released a statement, wherein it has clarified that few of the decisions taken by the Interior Ministry with respect to expatriates seeking residence permit in the country.
Expatriates will henceforth be required to produce police clearance certificate, issued by relevant authorities of their country, and these certificates will have to be approved by Kuwaiti officials in their respective place.
Pointing out to few clauses after receiving several complaints from job owners, the department said that in accordance with the Ministry’s decision, the procedure was introduced bearing in mind the public interest of the country. Also, as it is mandatory for applicants to undergo this procedure in their countries for visa approval, the course of action will not pose an additional problem.
The process is however, restricted only to residency applicants. People seeking visit visas will however be exempted from this regulation.
This new requirement is applicable to all applicants over the age of 18, and the instructions have been included in application forms to ensure that people are aware of such criteria before seeking residency.
The department also said that they have co-ordinated with all other concerned directorates at the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs for implementation of the new regulation.
Furthermore, the Committee emphasized that the Ministry should continue to cut down the number of registered work permits being issued.
