Kuwait plans to restrict expatriates stay in the country
With the beginning of the new parliamentary term, the governments agenda for the next four years has been divided into three main phases and policies - the population issue, labour management, and public education policies.
According to one of the government officials, the main element of the plan is to restrict the total number of expatriates living in Kuwait during the four-year tenure of the plan, and to reduce the influx of unskilled workers into Kuwait.
The official said that four individual projects worth a total of KD4mn will be launched to limit the problems pertaining to unskilled expatriate workers, protecting borders against infiltration and resolving the problems faced by illegal residents in Kuwait.
The official also revealed that the government agenda includes projects to develop skills and qualifications of the Kuwaiti workforce in order to nationalize more jobs in the country.
The plan aims to limit the stay of expats in the country to a maximum of six years for unskilled workers and eight years for those with medium skills and 12 years for skilled professionals.
The agenda also includes plans to arrest illegal residents and take proper legal action against them and against those who harbour them, apart from deporting and blacklisting them.
