New laws likely for expatriate sponsorship system
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour is likely to announce few decisions pertaining to possible alternatives to sponsorship system, after Eid-Al-Fitr holidays.
These decisions are aimed at lifting restrictions on expatriate workers on Article 18 visa, and several measures will be taken to permit expatriate workers on Article 18 visa who were hired from abroad, to transfer their residence permits to another sponsor without any need for approval from the current sponsor, provided, they should have spent three years with their sponsor in Kuwait.
According to sources, additional measures will also be made to organize the re-registration of expatriate workers deleted from the files of their employers’ and offer more facilities and implement flexible procedures in this regard.
Other decisions in pipeline include the promotion of department heads, fill-up vacancies in labour department, and take necessary actions against charitable societies proven to have committed violations during Ramadan.
