Expatriate workers permitted self-sponsorship on meeting criteria
Al-Kandari, in a press statement, clarified that the ministry has agreed to permit few expatriate workers in private sector to sponsor themselves, provided, they meet certain criteria. They are not required to furnish any financial guarantee, he noted.
Most expatriate employees are totally dependent on their monthly salaries, and therefore it is not possible to ask them to furnish bank warranties, he explained.
According to Al-Kandari, the Article 19 visa in the private sector will be granted to owners of commercial companies as these companies have accounts and contracts in banks, and foreign partners, who own 49 percent of the companies, apart from those with unique fields of specialization, who are not required to furnish contracts of establishing companies or bank statements.
He also said that there is some sort of insurance in the contract signed by a labourer and employer, although it is not related to the residency itself. In case any of the parties break stipulations of the contract, the insurance companies can compensate the aggrieved party, he concluded.
