Implementation of new Labour law in Kuwait will have to wait
Although the National Assembly in Kuwait passed the draft labour law on Wednesday, the final voting will be delayed until late October, as per a government request.
The new female MPs and Islamist MPs in Kuwait argued during the session, about new articles in the law regarding women rights.
While the MPs Aseel Al-Awadhi and Maasouma Al-Mubarak objected to the article which bans women from working at night and banning employment of women in touch jobs, several other MPs objected to the idea that the labour law should treat Kuwaitis and expatriates equally, and emphasized that Kuwaitis should be given more benefits.
“It is unfair that Kuwaitis are being treated equivalent to expatriates in private sector. The citizens should be given better advantage,” said MP Saleh Al-Mulla.
Islamist MP Adnan Abdulsamad said that giving more benefits to Kuwaitis will discourage private companies from employing them, and therefore all should be treated equally.
