More expats in Kuwait moving to home countries
About 17,000 expatriates have left Kuwait and moved back to their home countries during the first half of the year, revealed the Deputy Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Mohammed Al-Kandari.
This constitutes 11 percent increase in repatriation, compared to the corresponding figures during the previous year.
According to Al-Kandari, this is the normal fall-out owing to the global economic crisis that most countries have faced, and he expressed confidence that the trend will not bear a negative impact on the private sector.
Al-Kandari also pointed out that there was considerable decline in the number of work permits issued to expatriates last year, However, he denied the fact that this could also be due to global economic recession, and said that this is likely due to the new Cabinet decree aimed to reduce the influx of marginal labourers into the country.
