Discussions on cancellation of sponsorship system in Kuwait
The Minister of Social Affairs and Labour, Dr Mohammad Al-Afasi has expressed his desire to eliminate the sponsorship system currently in practice in Kuwait.
This will help in tackling the issue of visa trafficking, based on Cabinet’s decision to safeguard human rights in the country, he pointed out.
He also expressed his desire to do away with the salary cap, which the disabled will have to meet, in order to receive financial assistance.
The government in Kuwait is striving towards cancellation of sponsorship system to curb visa trading and to improve the human rights record of Kuwait.
Meanwhile, the government committee formed towards tackling the issue of unemployment has decided to prepare an Insurance Law draft bill to solve current and future job issues. The draft bill will be submitted to the Cabinet next week.
The project deals with payment of salaries to citizens who have been laid off, citizens working in the private sector, donors and NGOs. The sources emphasized that contribution by private sector will offer job security to the employees.
