Smart Cards to be launched in Kuwait soon
Kuwait is all set to introduce a new smart card system which is likely to replace the current Civil ID card, the officials announced on Tuesday.
The Director-General of the Public Authority for Civil Information, Musaed Al Asausi, mentioned that official preparations for introducing the card have been already completed. The card is more than a traditional identity card and will carry more information and have more uses.
The Smart Card can also be used to open electric entrance gates and for co-ordinating files in the Ministry of Health, and for dispensing subsidized material formerly listed on the family ration card, KUNA reported.
The General Authority for Civil Information is also planning to include few additional services in the card in future, although the details are yet to be revealed.
The Smart Cards will have a validity period of five years, and therefore, the photographs and other information on the card will get updated regularly.
However, Al Asausi is yet to confirm the date when the card would come into effect.
