Major revamping planned for Kuwait International Airport
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, Al-Dekhleel, has confirmed that it is making efforts in implementing projects aimed towards modernizing Kuwait International Airport.
The Directorate has finalized contracts and specifications to implement first and second phase of Airport development projects. The projects include development and expansion of western runway, construction of roads for taxiing, parking areas, building new headquarters for Directorate and including two fire stations.
Speaking about the ongoing projects, Al-Dekheel said that construction of Amiri Lounge and facilities for Kuwait Aviation Fuel Company (KAFCO) were underway.
The Civial Aviation Directorate aims at modernizing the airport to improve services and increase capacity in terms of number of passengers and flights, the official said.
He also said that the Directorate would build a new terminal to increase the passenger capacity from seven million to more than 20 million each year. However, Al-Dekheel denied any intention to move to another location, and confirmed that the government has been prompting for modernization and expansion of the sole commercial airport in the country.
