No visit visa extensions in Kuwait from Jan 2009
The General Immigration Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has passed a decision, not to extend visit visas, effective January 2009.
After conducting a brief study on the matter, the department decided not to extend visit visas in order to reduce the crowd and confusion in the concerned departments.
As per the decision, family visit visas have three-month validity, while the tourist visas for diplomatic, commercial or personal visits are valid for one-month period.
Visit visas will be extended only if they are converted to work visas in the private sector for academic certificate holders, in accordance with the work permit procedures at the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour. This extension is aimed at providing applicants with sufficient time to complete the necessary procedures such fingerprinting or medical tests.
Even patients in critical condition will be permitted with visit visa extensions, provided, a valid medical certificate from the Ministry of Health (MoH) is attached with the application.
In the meanwhile, all sponsors and residents are strictly required to adhere to the specified period for visit visas, which indicates foreigners on visit to Kuwait are required to leave the country prior to expiry of visas to avoid any legal problems.
