Fresh Directives issued for processing of work permits in Kuwait
The Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour has issued fresh directives regarding the issuance, cancellation, and transfer of work permits in Kuwait.
According to sources from the Ministry, the Ministry has instructed the labour departments not to accept application for cancellation or transfer of work permits, unless the employers produce a certificate from the labour inspection sections and the affiliated units in various governorates to prove the transfer of workers salaries to their personal bank accounts, and this should be attested by the banks.
The labour departments have also been instructed not to process the applications for transfer or renewal of work permits of those whose residence permits have expired on 27th August 2008 or earlier, but permitted the processing of transactions for violators whose residence permits expired from 28th August 2008.
The labour departments can accept applications for visit visas and the domestic work visas, if the specified criteria for the non-governmental sector are met, and if their residence permits have expired on or beyond 28th August 2008.
This forms a part of Ministry’s measure to penalize those who did not avail the amnesty scheme granted to illegal expats from 1st September until 15th October.
The relevant authorities have also been instructed to stop accepting labour-related complaints from people whose residence permits have expired on 27th August 2008 or earlier, but permitted to proceed processing of complaints for those whose permits have expired past the said date.
