Largest photography exhibition in the world held at The Avenues in Kuwait
The iconic shopping destination in Kuwait, The Avenues, will play host to the largest and most prestigious photo exhibition from 4th to 18th October 2008, held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Sheikha Al Abdullah El Sabah, the Hon. Chairperson of Kuwait Disabled Sports Club.
Being held for the first time in Kuwait, and for the second time in GCC, the World Press Photo Exhibition will feature the most striking and tell-tale images captured by photo journalists across the world.
The two-week event will include a choice of 80 pictures from over 80,000 images from 5000 photographers belonging to various countries.
The exhibition will be hosted in the newly opened extension of the Avenues mall, offering maximum visibility for the spectacular collections, and providing an opportunity for several visitors to view the rarest pictures.
Steve Bunce, the Mall Director at The Avenues, said “The Avenues is proud to host the World Press Photo Exhibition at our premises. It is the biggest event in photo journalism. It gives the visitors an opportunity to catch a glimpse of the world around them, through the camera and power of images.”
The News Photos are one of the most powerful tools of journalism, as it is said that a picture can save thousand words. The exhibition is therefore aimed at motivating people to view photography as a creative pursuit rather than an effective means of communication, more than a hobby or pastime.
The exhibition, which forms a part of World Press Photo Contest, is open to all professional news photographers across the globe and will showcase the latest in developments and trends of photo journalism.
The contest is judged by a 13 member panel, including picture editors, photographers and news agency representatives from various countries. The winning entries will be put into a travel exhibition, covering 90 countries, and attracting millions of viewers.
