Kuwait amnesty scheme for illegal residents to end on Oct 15th
According to the Assistant Director of Immigration, Col Bader Al Hamadi, immigration departments are continuing to accept foreigners with outdated residency, availing Kuwait ministerial amnesty scheme, which ends on 15th October 2008.
Speaking during a recent press statement, Al Hammadi said that the decision is a humanitarian gesture on the part of HH the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, wherein residency violators are given their final chance to leave the country or amend their status.
The concerned individuals should immediately avail the initiative which began in September, and make use of this opportunity as their chance to return to Kuwait, he urged.
“Thereafter, if anyone is caught in violation after the lapse of the mentioned period, they will be prosecuted, deported and marked on the illegal entry list,” Al-Hamadi said.
Kuwaiti sponsors of foreign residents have also been urged to monitor their employed labour under various professions.
“The immigration department is accepting cases round the clock. People who have lost their passports or hold an outdated passport can also visit their closest Public Immigration office to arrange a single-travel permit, together with their embassy,” he added.
The Deputy Director of Border Control, Kuwait International Airport, Col. Bandar Al-Thafeeri emphasized that all preparations have been made to accommodate the decision by Interior Ministry to offer a grace period to illegal residents for their departure from the country, or for amendment of status, prior to 15th October.
Al-Thafeeri urged illegal residents to take advantage of the amnesty period, and warned for a visit ban and legal action in case of any defiance of the law. He added that all security restraints on these individuals would be removed once the procedures end, offering visitors with another chance to get back to Kuwait, if they wish.
As per the instructions of Interior Ministry, illegal residents had to be provided with all necessary assistance required for amendment of status in the country or exit from the country, without any legal obligations. Parents of new borns also had to visit the nearest immigration center within the said period to update residency status.
