Kuwait urges illegal expats to utilize the final opportunity

With the amnesty period coming to an end, Kuwait has urged illegal expatriates to take advantage of their final chance of the 45-day amnesty granted by the Amir from September 1st to 15th October 2008, as Kuwait may not grant another reprieve during the coming years.

According to sources at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) a public authority established by the Ministry, will track down illegal expatriates, intensifying the campaign after closure of the amnesty period.

The security authorities are keen on putting the visa traders and imaginary companies on the black list and ban them from processing any transactions at the immigration departments.

Illegal expatriates can leave the country without paying penalty during amnesty period, and will be permitted to return to Kuwait after providing valid documents. After the amnesty period, illegal expatriates will have to pay KD3000 to KD4000 for themselves and families if they wish to leave the country.

Ever-since the announcement of the amnesty period, about 15000 illegal expatriates have left the country, which comprises about one-fourth of the total illegal expatriates in the country. About 500 illegal expatriates of various nationalities are currently processing their documents to correct the status or leave the country.

According to sources, the new organizational structure by the Interior Ministry will be completed after Eid Al-Fitr.
