Fresh phone numbering system launched in Kuwait
The Minister of Communications in Kuwait, Abdulrahman Al-Ghunaim, announced the launch of first stage of fifth phone numbering system.
The Minister announced that henceforth all National Mobile Telecommunications (Wataniya) and Zain numbers will turn into eight digits, rather than the current seven digits.
The Ministry of Communications (MoC) has take all necessary precautionary measures to ensure that phone services continue without disruption during implementation of the new fifth phone numbering system.
The first stage begins with addition of the number 9 to zain mobile phone lines, and 6 to Wataniya’s.
The number 2 will then be affixed to fixed phone lines, and number 1 to extension lines beginning with number 8. This initiative aims to enhance mobile and fixed phone services, and to boost the competitive edge of local communication companies, which would result in higher quality, cheaper prices.
The Chairman of the Company, involved in the project, Hisham Akbar, said that the privacy of the subscribers has been taken into consideration while executing the new phone numbering project.
The Chairman hailed the plan, pointing out that it is a necessary step ahead to keep abreast of the current stupendous developments happening across the globe.
