Kuwait government urged to boost infrastructure, construction

The Board Chairman of Al-Mutakhasses Real Estate Company, Faraj Al-Khidhri, has called upon relevant authorities to plan up-gradation of national infrastructure to boost construction, capitalizing on the currently available financial resources.

In a report released by the company last week, speaking about various public departments, it stated that the Ministry of Planning, Oil, Public Authority for Housing Care and the Kuwait Municipality need to join hands to work out joint plans for enhancement of infrastructure, housing and property sectors.

He requested allocation of new land plots for further growth in construction of residences for nationals, and expressed dissatisfaction over the “hegemony of the Ministry of Oil” on the national lands.

Al-Khidri, in his report, called for minimizing the negative outcome of current development ventures, and pointed out the need to expand land spaces for more buildings based on medium and long term plans and for regulation of relationship between tenants and landlords.

The allocation of five percent in state budget for development of infrastructural schemes, as is being done at present, is insufficient, he pointed out, adding that, the state has surplus financial resources and this will enable it to proceed with development and construction schemes.

With 2009 approaching, Kuwait has continued to remain with a single airport, without metro or railway services. Such schemes are vital for creating new jobs and also solve the problem of traffic regulation, apart from luring foreign investments, Al-Khidri pointed out.

Residency violators abiding by deportation law can return to Kuwait in future. The violators of Residence Law are free to return to Kuwait later, if they benefited from the new deportation law, a Kuwaiti official pointed out yesterday.

The senior official at the Public Department for Immigration, Col. Saleh Al-Assfor, revealed that the 45-day amnesty, which commenced on 1st September, will continue until 15th October, and hopefully it will help reduce the problem of faux-labour in Kuwait.

He requested residency violators to adhere to the new law implementation by the Interior Ministry, and said that sponsors trying to hide residency violators or use their services for employment other than the one signed in the labourers contract, will have to face action.

The Director of Department of Immigration in Kuwait, Lt. Col. Adeeb Sowaidan, emphasized that the department has met with all necessary procedures regarding the latest decision by the Ministry of Interior to offer grace period and exemption of penalties for illegal residents to leave the country.

The grace period offered will be open until 15th October, and the staff have been arranged to accept people whose residency permits have ended, to apply for exemption and departure.

All the remaining five governorates too have been directed to follow the same, he confirmed.
