Expats seeking cancellation of residence permits may have to pay their dues
The Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Kuwait is studying a proposal wherein expatriates seeking to cancel their residence permits, will have to pay traffic fines in full, prior to cancellation of their visas.
The expatriates, who have been referred to the court for serious traffic violations, had been banned from travelling out of the country. Now, the Assistant Undersecretary for Traffic Affairs, Maj. Gen. Thabet Al-Muhanna, is seriously considering the proposal as the earlier law pertaining to prohibition of use of mobile phone by hand when driving, proved unsuccessful, although there was a decrease in the number of accident cases.
The international community is contemplating on the possibility of total ban on use of mobile phones when driving. Similarly motorists who are physically-fit are refrained from using parking spaces allotted for the handicapped. A proposal will be presented to seize the vehicle of any physically-fir individual parked on the space allocated for the disabled, said Al-Muhanna.
Al-Muhanna also confirmed about submission of a proposal sometime back, regarding the establishment of a company, affiliated to the Traffic Department, for confiscation of vehicles and collecting fines from the owners.
He also revealed plans to renovate traffic departments in all governorates, apart from construction of new buildings, as few of these departments are still using pre-fabricated rooms.
Al-Muhanna has also warned motorists about the dangerous repercussions of driving beyond the speed limit.
