Expatriates throng immigration offices in Kuwait

Expatriates in Kuwait are reported to be thronging the immigration offices in the six governorates, seeking family visit visa applications, and extension of family visit visas, following recent announcement by the Interior Ministry that the visit visas will be valid for three months.

The employees in the immigration offices are busy processing the transactions to the delight of applicants.

According to sources, the immigration offices in Hawalli and Farwaniya Governorates have received maximum applications, due to the large population of expatriates in these areas.

“The new system will give us ample time to spend with families, each time they visit Kuwait. This has eliminated the bureaucratic procedures associated with the old systems,” agree the applicants.

However, few citizens have expressed concern over the flaws of new system, and have warnedthat majority of foreigners arrive in Kuwait on visit visas on the pretext of visiting their families, but will late end up seeking jobs, which might ultimately increase the number of marginal laborers in the country.

The citizens requested the Interior Ministry to take up necessary measures to regulate the system and maintain security.

However, few expatriates have appealed to the authorities to grant six-month visit visa extension that permit families to spend summer holidays with them. This could bring in more revenues to Kuwait, and lessen travel hazards, they said.
