Three-month tourist visa to Kuwait extended up to a year
The Ministry of Interior in Kuwait has announced that foreigners can now apply for a three-month tourist visa to Kuwait from Kuwaiti Consulates in their respective countries, or at the concerned department at the Ministry of Interior. The validity of such a visa can be extended up to one year according to Article 11 of Amiri Decree 17/1959.
This directive is one of the two ministerial decisions, intended to amend the Residence Law, which was announced on Wednesday by Sheikh Jaber Al-Khaled Al-Sabah, the Interior Minister.
The other decision permits expatriates with valid residence permits in any one of the GCC nations to enter Kuwait with a tourist visa, which can be obtained on arrival at any of the entry ports, provided, the residence permits are valid for more than six months beginning May 21, 2008. Such visas can also be obtained from Kuwaiti Consulates.
According to sources in the Ministry, the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor will resume normal procedures for issuance of work permits beginning July this year. The Ministry had so far been controlling the issuance of work permits for six months, so as to regulate the labor market and reduce the number of marginal expatriate labor in the country.
