Kuwaiti Government urged to consider relocation of the Airport
The Kuwaiti Government has been urged to relocate Kuwait International Airport, as the current location contributes to increased noise pollution in the area. This was strongly supported by Abdulaziz Al-Sahayeji, a member of Municipal Council, who agrees that residents in the area, around the airport, are subjected to a lot of inconvenience due to high-noise levels.
He urged that the airport be relocated to another area after contracting international consortiums, and requested the relevant authorities in the state to confer with those specialists and choose an appropriate location.
This issue of relocation of the airport is being discussed since the 90s. The organizational structure in 1983 marked a located for the new airport in the Araifjan area, and another structure in 1993 also recommended the same area, he said.
He requested the government to seriously consider relocation of the airport, as the current site is located in a sensitive area, which could bear catastrophic results in the future. The current site, located near Farwaniya area is the place where most terrorists in Kuwait reside, and there are possibilities of civilian panes being targeted prior to landing, he cautioned.
