Kuwait Municipality orders closure of seven schools in Al Jabriya, Al-Surra
The Kuwait Municipality has confirmed the closure of seven private schools in Al-Surra and Al-Jabriya, in accordance with the decision issued by Municipality Council, banning the operation of private schools in residential areas.
Responding to a query of Municipality Council, the Assistant General Manager for Planning and Survey Affairs at Kuwait Municipality, explained that the municipality has discussed the issue with concerned authorities at the Ministry of Education, after which the Council ordered the closure of schools, on grounds that, Although the Municipality allocated lands for these schools seven years ago, the owners of the schools, failed to abide by the condition regarding construction of school buildings within a year of receiving the lands.
According to the Ministry, the schools that are affected by this, include, Modern English School, Fajr Al-Sabah Private School, Al-Jabriya Indian School, Private English Academy and Iranian Private School in Al-Jabriya, and Al-Tadamum Private School and Al-Jeffery Private School in Al-Surra.
According to Ministerial sources, the owners of the schools have no other option, but, to begin construction of schools within a year, and transfer to these areas within seven years maximum.
