Kuwait Government to address infrastructure needs of the State
Kuwaits infrastructure seems to be the most essential issue that needs special attention, as most new projects and reconstruction works are not being implemented, reports Kuwait Times.
The Ministry of Public Works has now taken this seriously and will be addressing this issue by holding a Public Works Conference and Exhibition, the first of its kind in Kuwait. This three-day conference, launched on Monday at Sheraton Hotel will last until Thursday. The conference titled Achievements, Expectations and Partnership will be accompanied by an exhibition, wherein the participating companies would exhibit their projects and products.
The subjects that will be discussed during these workshops include structural engineering and design, infrastructure, transportation, environment, sanitation, project and construction management, maintenance and operation, general practices, Failaka, Al-Shadadiya, Bobyan, and other projects.
The Minister of Oil and Housing, Dr. Adel Al-Subeih, pointed out that the main role of the conference is to highlight the developmental works carried out by the Ministry of Public Works. The Ministry has spent about KD250million on various projects last year. These developmental works needs to be implemented, as the government considers Kuwait’s development, as its top priority.
Al-Subbeih said that the failure of the Government in the infrastructure sector is mainly due to red tape and government bureaucracy in the public sector. Also several procedures, paper works, and approvals are required for implementation of the project, while with just a single objection, the project could be refused.
Al-Subeih opinioned that the private sector too, should participate in the infrastructure development of Kuwait, as without the active participation of private sector, Kuwait cannot reach complete development. The private sector, in-turn needs co-operation of public sector, in obtaining licenses and other papers. Meanwhile, the government should take care not to monopolize everything, he concluded.
