Longest bridge in the world to be ready this year

The longest bridge in the world linking Kuwait City to Subiyah New Town across Kuwait Bay is all set for completion in 2019.

Hyundai Engineering will complete the Sheikh Jaber Causeway this year, which is six years after winning the $2.6bn project.

The media reports say that the total length of the bridge on completion would be 48.53km, which is 7km longer than Haiwan Bridge in China.

The project is due for completion in April this year, and has reclaimed 1.5 million sqm of land for two ports and a main administration building and visitor centre.
In November 2013, Hyundai E&C won the project along with a local company combined group, with Korean builder’s share of the project standing at 78 percent of total construction cost.

This is the largest civil engineering project by a Korean contractor since the waterway order from Libya in 1984.
