Stiff penalties for employers hiring expats not under their sponsorship

Stiff penalties will be imposed on those who employ expatriates under the sponsorship of other employers, revealed the official spokesperson of the Public Authority for Manpower Aseel Al-Mazya.

As per the official, the authority launched a media campaign to raise awareness among employers about the stringent penalties and asked them to stop hiring those who violated the Residency Law.

The campaign, titled as ‘Tazeez’ aims to consolidate the concept of suitable labor in Kuwait, and informs employers about what they should do to achieve the development objectives of the country through creation of a safe, stable and fair working environment for all.

The law states a jail term not exceeding three years, and a fine of not less than KD2000 and not more than KD10,000, or both penalties, for employers who hire workers who are not under their sponsorship.

This does not interfere with administrative right to deport employees.
