Kuwait Metro Transport to be ready by 2019

The Supreme Council for Planning and Development Statistics has announced that 11 percent of the Metro Transport System project has been completed, and the project is likely to be completed in 2019. The total estimated cost of building the metro transport system is KD3.46billion.

The project will be implemented through Public Private Partnership (PPP) system to provide an integrated transport system which would facilitate public transport within Kuwait City. The Kuwait Metro project is one of the development plan projects included in the 2035 vision.

As per Supreme Council statistics, 11 percent of the metro transport system project is complete at present, and the whole project is likely to be completed in 2019. The total estimated cost of building the metro transport system will be KD3.46 bn.

The project is being completed through PPP system to provide an integrated transport system which would facilitate public transport within Kuwait City. The Kuwait Metro project is one of the development plan projects included in the 2035 vision.

The aim of the project is to provide more than 1500 job opportunities, reduce traffic congestion as the metro would have a rush hour capacity of 19,000 passengers, reducing use of expat private transport as 90 percent of them are likely to use it.

The goal of the project is to develop social and commercial complexes surrounding its stops, reduce the number private vehicle users, reduce traffic accidents and reduce air pollution resulting from vehicle exhaust fumes.
