New e-Passport System to be launched by mid-September

A new electronic passport system (e-passport) will be launched in mid-September, the Interior Ministry Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passport Affairs, Gen. Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah Al-Sabah said yesterday.

During a speech at the 31st meeting of GCC, the Director General of Passport Authorities, Sheikh Mazen, said that the new system will take priority over other issues to be discussed in the meeting.

The Director General of Public Relations and Security Information at Interior Ministry, Adel Al-Hashash revealed that the new electronic passport system will bear complete details of the passport holder, thereby making all forms of forgery unfeasible.

The Interior Ministry in Kuwait, last year, signed a contract for supply of new e-passport, which was considered part of the efforts to apply the latest technology for better services to nationals.

The new achievement will bear a positive outcome for security and the services offered to nationals as a measure on the way of completing modernization plan, being implemented by the security establishment. It is necessary to abolish all obstacles and take necessary measures for completing the e-passport project as quickly as possible, the ministry said.
