Kuwait to focus on tourism to diversify income sources

The Kuwait government is keen to promote the tourism sector in Kuwait and develop it as a way to diversify income sources and create better opportunities for young people.

The Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs, Sheikh Salman Sabah Al-Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah mentioned this during the inauguration of a conference on tourism titled ‘Tourism and Development: Reality and Outlook’.

The tourism sector by the Information Ministry plans to activate the role of tourism and form the ‘Supreme Commission for Tourism’ to practice Kuwait’s tourism strategy, the Minister said.

The Minister said that developing the tourism sector infrastructure in Kuwait is necessary to achieve the vision of transforming Kuwait into financial and commercial hub.

According to Minister Sheikh Salman, the government in Kuwait has already begun to implement several of the vital projects in this regard, and has shown interest in cultural activities taken up by the Ministry of Information’s tourism sector and the NCCAL (National Council for Culture, Arts and Letters).

Sheikh Salman Al-Hamoud mentioned that the GCC has several tourism potentials, including the bases to become global touristic destination with historical, archeological and cultural legacy.

He also pointed out the need to activate co-operation and partnership with private sector, and the development of human resource in the GCC region.
