Kuwait to deport expats without valid driving license

Toughening its traffic laws further, the State of Kuwait has announced that it will deport any expatriate caught driving without a valid license.

According to security sources, this decision has been attributed to the fact that several expatriates did not mind paying the trivial fine of KD30 if they were arrested by the police on charges of driving without a Kuwaiti license.

Although the date of implementation of the decision is yet to be revealed, the sources said that stiff penalty would improve traffic congestion and limit accident casualities.

Kuwait has now intensified campaigns across the country to address abuses on roads, after they gained ill repute as lacking driving culture and absence of adherence to rules and regulations.

According to officials, the crackdown also includes misuse of licenses by some drivers. For instance, in the year 2013, atleast 503 expats were deported for committing serious traffic violations including jumping red lights, using private vehicles, reckless driving, driving without proper license, etc.

The deportation formed part of a campaign launched by authorities to emphasize control over traffic flow and to improve road safety in Kuwait.
